This is a new Begonia species to the hobby, still unidentified, from Kalimantan in Borneo. Not much is known about its growth. I will update this page in the future when I have kept it for longer. For now, it’s mature size is a mystery.
This is a new species to cultivation as of 2019. The red stems and glaucous maroon leaves create a very striking appearance. I have had it in my collection less than a year, so cannot say for sure how large it gets, but I am guessing it stays under 10″. Begonia darthvaderiana was discovered in 2013 near West Kalimantan. It slightly resembles Begonia chlorosticta in its growth, and it’s temperamental nature. It has been making its way into the hobby gradually over the past year, and I am happy to now be growing this species.
