Bulbophyllum restrepia
$32
The plants whose etymology derives from other clades always seem special, and this one is no exception. It looks as much like a Pleurothallid as a Bulbophyllum in its morphology (at least to my untrained eye) and the flowers are not what first comes to mind when imagining a Bulbophyllum flower. This species occurs in Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo, Sulawesi, New Guinea, and most recently, it has been documented in the Nicobar Islands of India. I’ve been growing in warm conditions, although some articles I’ve read suggest it is a cool-growing species. Although it does occur in lowland forest, it can be found up to 1600m asl. In any case, it seems tolerant of warm conditions although it sounds like it would do just as well or better in cooler conditions. It’s compact, and produces a single butter colored flower with a long lip.
Available plants are well established in 2″ pots. The last photo is representative of the plant you will receive.
