A deep purple Melastome from Southestern Brazil, Bertolonia sanguinea is a nice compact species for biotope terrariums featuring Brazilian dart frogs as it withstands trampling well and can be planted as a foreground or background plant.  Flowers are the typical ‘Melastome magenta’ and fairly uneventful, but the year round foliage is spectacular.

The last photo is representative of the plants available. They are in 2″ pots.
