These leafy liverworts always grab my attention, maybe the subtle (and at times not so subtle) differences in size, color, translucency, and shape of an already interesting design. While I still fall in love with every new one, I am a little jaded, never expecting to be surprised by them. On a recent hike in Ecuador, this colony of glaucous leaved ones took me by surprise. Their sudden white leaf color stood out among the other mosses growing on the eroding clay bank. Finding a favorite among my favorites made for a wonderful moment.
